The new "Medina Bee Park" is now open for public use at 380 South Broadway Street in the South Town District of Medina. The park features patio lighting, public art, stage and seating, and pollinator planters. The space provides a relaxing respite for visitors and residents while beautifying this highly visible area of the city. We'll also feature live entertainment from time to time. In 2025, we raised money to convert an underused commercial space on South Broadway Street into a vibrant gathering space called the "Medina Bee Park" to recognize Medina's "bee" heritage.

Congratulations to the two winners of the Medina Bee Park Mural Contest: Logan Gsellman and Sid Frazier! Both will receive $2,500 for their artwork.
Logan Gsellman developed a passion for art at a young age, which he pursued throughout his education in the Highland Local School District. After graduating from HHS in 2013, he attended the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he earned a BFA in Industrial Design with a focus on toy design.
Following internships at several toy companies, Logan began his professional career at Fisher-Price in Buffalo, New York. After seven years of toy development there, he moved his family back to Medina, Ohio, to begin freelancing and start a family farm. Since then, Logan has worked with numerous top brands to create concepts for toys and collectibles, specializing in concept ideation and digital sculpture.
He is a proud husband and father of three boys. He enjoys spending time with them caring for their farm’s animals and plants which include cows, pigs, chickens, an orchard, and various flower and vegetable gardens. The family also frequently enjoys local honey produced by Logan's mother who keeps bees next door.
Logan adds, "The inspiration for this artwork came from summer family walks through the flower-laden fields of our property. My aim was to capture the life and energy that surrounds us during these hikes by incorporating naturally vibrant colors into a dynamic and expressive composition."

Sid Frazier is a student artist from Medina, currently majoring in Animation and minoring in both Film and Creative Writing. He spent the last two years of school at the Columbus College of Art and Design and will be transferring to the Savannah College of Art and Design to continue pursuing his current major and minors.
Sid’s work revolves mainly around storytelling, and he hopes to find a career in the entertainment industry after graduation. Nature has been a lifelong interest of his, and Sid spends a lot of his spare time drawing plants and animals – whether that be a species from across the globe or something just waiting to be found in his backyard.
Sid adds, "This piece was inspired in part by the kinds of native plants and familiar sights I remember from growing up in Medina. As a kid, I used to pick wild berries off the bushes in my backyard, and I remember stirring up cabbage butterflies that slept in the grass as I walked. My grandparent’s flowerbeds housed purple coneflowers that I would see after the bus dropped me off from school. Fenced-in fields of cows or horses were a common sight driving to and from home.
As a current college student in Columbus, living in the city has made me realize how much I miss being around the kind of nature I was so used to seeing in Medina. Now, being home for the summer, I’m excited to be around green again."

The Mural Selection Process
Main Street Medina announced a Call for Artwork in late February, which began the search for an eye-catching centerpiece for the Bee Park. We wanted art that featured nature, complemented Medina’s "bee history," and reflected the beauty of native pollinator plants.
We promoted the art contest locally through multiple channels, including various forms of media and the Medina County Art League. And after six weeks, we received 113 submissions from 70 artists! And almost 75% of the artists were from Medina County! There is a lot of artistic talent in this community!
We then convened a seven-person judging panel consisting of individuals from the Medina County Art League, Main Street Medina, Business Owners, and the City of Medina. The group reviewed and discussed all the submissions anonymously against the judging criteria we had outlined … composition/design, creativity, artistic excellence, adherence to theme, and visual impact at scale. We intended to use the category of ‘local artist’ to break a tie, but in the end, we chose two pieces as co-winners of the art contest, and we were excited to see that both artists were local, both from Medina!
We are proud of both of these artists submissions and think they do an excellent job of beautifying this corner of Medina’s South Town.

It's All Native Pollinators!
The pop-up “Medina Bee Park” is a great space to gather with the community while spotlighting local artists and native pollinator species. While Medina is known for its history with honeybees, Ohio has numerous important native pollinators that should be celebrated and supported too! The native plants growing in the Bee Park and South Town are a great way to support pollinators while adding beauty to our public spaces. The leaves of native plants serve as a host to our young insects, while the flowers feed the pollinators when they become adults. Below is a list of native plants you can find growing in one of the many planters.
Getting these native plants to mature and bloom fully takes about a year, so be patient while these babies grow.
