Medina DORA Survey
Main Street Medina and the City of Medina are issuing this short survey in order to gauge community and business interest around the possible implementation of a "Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area" (DORA) in downtown Medina, and to also solicit input on potential locations & operational timeframes.
If you are already familiar with DORAs, and you're ready to complete the survey, select the General Survey link, unless you are either a Restaurant or Retail Shop Owner (in which case, select the link specific to the type of business you own and operate):

What is a DORA (“Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area”)?
A DORA is a specifically designated area in which patrons 21-years and older are able to purchase beer, wine, and mixed drinks, in specifically defined cups, from permitted establishments, during set days and times. These beverages may then be carried and consumed within the DORA’s clearly defined boundaries, either while relaxing outdoors, enjoying downtown events, or while shopping at retailers that permit DORA beverages within their businesses.
The ability to create these DORA spaces is the result of recent Ohio legislation (Revised Code Section 4301.82) which provided an exemption to the Open Container Law.
DORAs have been established in Brunswick and Wadsworth, and in nearby Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls, Akron, Kent, Barberton, Doylestown, and Wooster.

What is a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA)?
Why a DORA in Medina?
The city aims to create a vibrant downtown atmosphere that enriches the experiences of residents and visitors by enhancing events with added amenities and services, while fostering economic growth opportunities for local businesses.
What are the Benefits of a DORA?
How to Mitigate Concerns around a DORA?
First off, in discussions with neighboring communities, the results of implementing a DORA have been predominantly positive, with little to no issues. In addition, with a DORA, restaurants and bars are held to the same guidelines they always are in ensuring the safety of their guests, checking IDs, and not over-serving alcohol to patrons. By ending the DORA at a reasonable hour, we reduce the likelihood that DORA drinks will be abused in late-night social gatherings. The Medina Police Department will without a doubt continue to excel in ensuring community safety. Also, the details of how a DORA operates is easily and highly customizable, and if for any reason, the DORA needs to be modified or temporarily suspended, that is fully controlled locally.
